Six years on cinder
Before the synthetic track, before the medals, there was a bag of spikes.

Anandi Rao ran her first 400m barefoot at a school meet in Nagpur and won by a straight.\n\nFor the next six years she trained on cinder, a surface that punishes the ankle and rewards nobody. She kept her first pair of spikes in a cloth bag until 2010, when she finally handed them to a coaching group she had founded.\n\nThe spikes were scanned before they were framed. That scan is the origin of this collection.
